Sample of Novel-in-Progress
Genre: Literary Fiction
Adam, an emotionally exhausted Albuquerque landscaper, quits his job in dramatic fashion, packs a bag, and flees the city by train. He deboards in a tiny town and is promptly conned by a one-night-stand who, after giving him a fake name, steals his money, clothes, and heart. Stuck in the town, Adam spends most of his time drunk or high or both. He gets in with the local crowd and, over time, realizes that something about them is strange.

After an unprepared president causes an international war that destroys his country of Merca, the people have rebuilt. To prevent and future mishaps, the government introduced the Personal Strength Analysis, which tests the IQ of every citizen on the week of their tenth birthday. Those who fail the Analysis are sent to a learning facility outside of Merca which few people know the truth about, and from which fewer ever return. Ryker Ofall does not pass the Analysis.

Hydrologic Cycle is a short collection of poetry about the process of maturing from child to adult, which often happens before the time is right. The poems provided include "Craving Apogee," "A Bunch of Oranges," and "Invasive."
